Guiding Tourist Groups in Bled: Agencies Must Provide a Licensed Tour Guide – IMPORTANT!
As of 30 May 2026, new regulations governing tourist guiding have been in force in Bled. Tour operators, including foreign travel agencies, must ensure that organised groups are accompanied by a guide holding the appropriate licence or a recognised professional qualification.
What Should Travel Agencies Know?
- A group leader without the appropriate licence is not sufficient.
- The guide must visibly display a valid tourist guide ID card while conducting the tour.
- The guide does not need to be a Slovenian citizen, provided they meet the requirements for working as a tourist guide in Slovenia.
Inspections and Fines
Inspections are most commonly carried out at Bled Castle and the Mlino pier, and may also take place in response to incidents or exceptional situations.
During an inspection, authorities may check the guide's identification card, documentation relating to the tourist programme, and evidence confirming the guide's authorisation to provide tourist guiding services.
- The applicable fines are:
- €200–€600 for conducting guided tours without the required licence.
€50–€150 for failing to display the tourist guide identification card in a clearly visible manner.
We recommend that agencies arrange cooperation with a suitably qualified tour guide in advance and prepare all the necessary documentation. Find out more on our Group Guiding page.
Planning a group visit to Bled? Make sure your tour guiding arrangements comply with the applicable regulations.
